The world's largest arts festival takes over Edinburgh for its 80th edition, from 6 to 30 August 2027.

The 2027 Edinburgh Festival Fringe runs from 6 to 30 August and marks its 80th edition. Thousands of shows play in theatres, pubs, church halls and university buildings across the city, from stand-up and theatre to cabaret, music and children's shows. The Royal Mile turns into a free stage for street performers and flyering casts, and the Mound has more street acts. Book a few must-sees when the programme comes out, then leave room for free shows and the tips you pick up in queues. Accommodation is the hardest part of a Fringe trip: book months ahead, or stay in Leith or further out and use the trams and buses. The Edinburgh International Festival also runs in August, so the city is full all month.
